25 Year Old Female Suffering from Hair Loss and Thinning Hair
Tuesday, January 29, 2008

Hair loss can be caused by many things, especially for women. The most common form of hair loss for balding men and women is Androgenetic Alopecia (male or female pattern hair loss). Many balding women make the mistake of believing that genetic hair loss is a male only problem however, over 20 million women in the United States alone are suffering from some form of baldness. The first step in determining a proper hair loss treatment therefore would be to determine the cause. I recommend consulting with a dermatologist or a hair restoration specialist who are specially trained in this area and will most likely be able to diagnose the cause of your hair loss and recommend treatment options.

Do I Have to Keep Using Hair Loss Drugs such as Rogaine, Scalp Med, and Propecia in Order For Them to Continue Working?
Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Unfortunately, there is no cure for hair loss at this time. Because of this, any non surgical hair loss treatment you choose to use will only be of benefit to you as long as you continue to use it. In other words, there is no guarantee that Rogaine (minoxidil), Propecia (finasteride), or Scalp Med will work for you however, if they do, stopping these hair loss drugs will result in a loss of all benefit received by them. Be sure to research the benefits, risks, and limitations of these hair loss drugs and make the decision early on (unless of side effects) whether or not you want to make a commitment to them.

Ancient American Indian Secret Hair Loss Treatment that Combats Male and Female Pattern Hair Loss
Sunday, January 20, 2008

Too many times, I have seen balding men and women suffering from Androgenetic Alopecia (genetic hair loss) buy into the marketing hype of a "secret" or "ancient" hair loss cure. The truth is, despite what some may be claiming, to date, there is no cure for male or female pattern hair loss. The hair restoration industry is large and many balding men and women are seeking an end to their hair loss problem. The question that I can't help but pose is, if there really was a hair loss cure, why would anyone want to keep it a secret? In my opinion, if any cure for hair loss was found, the company that manufactured it would publicize and sell it, becoming one of the richest and profitable companies in the world.

Using Propecia (Finasteride) for 3 Months, Experiencing Hair Shedding, Is This Normal?
Wednesday, January 16, 2008

The good news is Propecia (finasteride) might be working for you but it is too early to know for sure. It is common for balding men to experience hair shedding up to approximately 3 months while using this hair loss medication as the weaker hairs are making way for newer stronger hairs. Though this can be discouraging for those trying to regrow hair, patience is a virtue with any hair loss drug. In my opinion, it's too early to tell whether or not Propecia (finasteride) is working for you. Unless you experience any side effects, I'd considering giving it at least 1 year to see if it slows down or stops your hair loss. Keep in mind that stopping this hair loss treatment will result in the loss of any benefits received.

Propecia (Finasteride) for Hair Loss: Side Effects
Sunday, January 13, 2008

On our hair restoration forum, there has been a lot of discussion about the potential side effects of Propecia (which contains active ingredient finasteride). Whereas it seems that by some hair loss sufferers, many things unrelated to Propecia (finasteride) is blamed on it, side effects from this hair loss drug are very possible and real. Propecia is one of the only two FDA approved hair loss medications for balding in the form of male pattern baldness / female pattern baldness for safety and efficacy. This hair loss drug works by inhibiting type II 5-alpha-reductase enzymes which when combined with testosterone, create dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone responsible for genetic hair loss.

Is Hair Loss Caused by an Unhealthy Lifestyle Such as Stress, a Poor Diet, or Lack of Exercise?
Wednesday, January 09, 2008

It is extremely important to differentiate typical male pattern baldness (MPB) and female pattern baldness (FPB) from these other types of hair loss. Though living a healthy lifestyle is important, genetics is the culprit for Androgenetic Alopecia (hereditary hair loss). Other types of hair loss include but are not limited to diffuse alopecia (of which the most common type is telogen effluvium), traction alopecia, and alopecia arreata. The causes of baldness related to these conditions are caused by many potential factors other than dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone responsible for genetic hair loss. Sometimes even, it is possible for a balding male or female suffering from hair loss to be susceptible to multiple types of hair loss. Diagnosing the cause of your hair loss becomes an important preliminary step in order to propose a possible hair loss solution. Diagnosing the cause of your hair loss condition can be performed by a qualified dermatologist or hair restoration specialist.
