Dr. Shapiro is widely recognized by his colleagues as a leading practitioner and teacher of the most advanced hair restoration procedure – Ultra Refined Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation. Dr. Ron Shapiro was among the first to pass the boards in the newly created American Board of Hair Restoration. In 2000 he was also elected to the Board of Governors for the American Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ASHRS). That same year he earned the "Archimedes" award for excellence in hair restoration from the Italian Society of Hair Restoration Surgery.

Since 1999 Dr. Ron Shapiro has served on the Board of Governors to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). He recently completed work in writing and editing major sections of Dr. Walter Unger’s well regarded textbook – “Hair Transplantation”.
